Do you know where it is?
The main stop tap: your most important tap. With almost every water problem, closing it is the first step. Find it now, while everything is still dry.
It's usually just before or after the water meter: in the cellar, the garage, the storeroom or under the stairs. In a flat, often in a cupboard in the hall or by the building's meters. Clockwise closes it. If it's stiff, don't force it and call us. Danger
You smell gas Gas is dangerous. Get outside and call us straight away: we're reachable day and night.
Don't use switches, sockets, the doorbell or any flame, and don't smoke. Open windows and doors. Close the gas valve at the meter if it's safe to do so. Leave the house and warn your neighbours. Call us from outside on 0492 66 25 44. We find the leak and repair or replace your gas pipe or appliance.
A leak or burst pipe The sooner the water is off, the smaller the damage.
Close the main stop tap. Switch off the power in the wet area, at the fuse box. Catch the water and move things up or away. Take photos of the leak and the damage for your insurer. Call us straight away. Can't close the main stop tap? Tell us on the phone.
A toilet or drain overflowing Usually there's a blockage in the drain or sewer.
Don't flush again and don't run any more water in the house. Close the valve behind the cistern if it keeps running. Water backing up into the cellar or shower? Then use no water anywhere in the house. Don't use harsh drain cleaners. Call us: we unblock it and use the camera to find where it's stuck.
The heating stops It's often something simple. Check this first.
Does the boiler have power? Check the plug and the fuse. Is the thermostat set high enough, and do its batteries still work? Is the pressure between 1 and 2 bar? Too low: top up as the manual says, or call us. Does the boiler show an error code? Write it down. Resetting once is fine; if it stops again, leave it. Still cold? Call us and give us the error code and the make of your boiler.
A frozen pipe In hard frost, pipes in a cold room can freeze and burst.
Close the main stop tap, so nothing happens if the pipe turns out to be cracked when it thaws. Thaw it gently with a hair dryer or warm cloths, working from the tap towards the frozen part. Never with an open flame or a torch. Prevent it next time: insulate pipes in cold rooms and shut off outdoor taps before winter. Is the pipe cracked or leaking after thawing? Call us straight away.
A blocked sink or shower Water standing but nothing overflowing? Then it can usually wait until tomorrow.
Don't run any more water into that drain. Try a plunger, gently and with a little water in the basin. Empty the trap under the sink, with a bucket underneath. Preferably no chemical products: they damage pipes and rarely help. Not working? Book an unblocking, or call us if it's urgent.
